Education
In Canada today, a physiotherapist is a university graduate with a minimum of an undergraduate degree followed by a Master’s in physiotherapy where they have clinical internships completed in recognized health care facilities across the world. After graduation from a recognized school of physiotherapy or rehabilitation, it is required that candidates pass the Physiotherapy National Examination.

Accountability
Many health professionals provide services similar to those offered by physiotherapists. But only individuals who are members of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario may use the title "physiotherapist" or "physical therapist". And only physiotherapists are accountable to the College for the quality of care they provide. When you see a registered physiotherapist, you can expect to receive top quality care from a qualified health professional. That’s because every physiotherapist in the province must meet the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario’s high standards for professional conduct and practice.

Areas of Physiotherapy
As leading health care providers, registered physiotherapists practice in many specialty areas including gerontology, orthopaedics, sports, neuroscience, paediatrics, cardiorespiratory and women's health.

Summary
A physiotherapist is your partner in evaluating and restoring strength, endurance, movement and physical abilities affected by injury, disease or disability. Whether it's for work or play, a physiotherapist can prevent or treat a wide range of physical challenges.
